Our Story:

The idea of Rainbow Oak Learning emerged as our founder, D’Anna, faced the tender challenge of stepping away from the “formal” public school classroom to raise her firstborn baby. As many parents know, the decision of when, or whether, to return to work is rarely simple, especially for a new mother with a strong background in child development, education, and English literature.

Soon after, she was given the opportunity to mentor and tutor her first homeschool family on a quaint homestead along the Stono River. The family graciously welcomed her newborn into their days of learning — chasing backyard chickens, playing in puddles at co-op, managing music lessons, reading alongside the river, and embracing the beautiful unpredictability of real life alongside real education.

It was there, under wide skies and moss-draped oaks, that D’Anna realized a return to a cinder block classroom for eight hours a day was no longer aligned with her calling. Instead, she felt inspired to build something rooted in creativity, curiosity, and community — a space where education could feel both rigorous and deeply human.

And so, Rainbow Oak Learning was born.

Philosophy of Education:

At Rainbow Oak Learning, we believe education should be child-centered, curiosity-driven, and rooted in real-life experiences. With a background in public education, we value equal access, inclusion, and respect for each child’s unique voice. At the same time, we remain flexible to honor each family’s values and curriculum preferences, including faith-based approaches when desired.

Inspired by books like The Call of the Wild and Free by Ainsley Arment, we champion nature-based, hands-on learning that encourages children to explore, ask questions, and follow their natural curiosity. Our approach is eclectic and progressive. We blend structure and guidance with freedom, creativity, and joy, so every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

“Childhood shows the man, as morning shows the day.
